Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk (2% or whole)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • Pinch of paprika

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Mrs. Dash blend
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Wet mix: Whisk onion powder, eggs, milk, heavy cream, and paprika until smooth.
  2. Dry mix: In a separate bowl, whisk flour, black pepper, garlic powder, Mrs. Dash, salt, thyme, and cornstarch.
  3. Prep onion: Peel onion but keep the root/core intact. Slice downward all around, stopping before the root to form petals. Gently separate.
  4. Coat: Dust onion in the dry mix; shake off excess. Dip into the wet batter, then return to the dry mix for a final coat. Press gently to adhere.
  5. Fry: Heat oil to 350°F (177°C). Carefully lower the onion blossom and fry 15–20 minutes until deep golden and crispy.
  6. Drain & serve: Transfer to a rack or paper towels. Serve hot with dipping sauce or enjoy plain.
