Perfect Onion Blossom (Bloomin’ Onion) at Home
Crispy outside, tender inside—this party-ready onion blossom is simple to prep, easy to fry, and guaranteed to impress.

Ingredients
Wet Ingredients
- ½ tsp onion powder
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup milk (2% or whole)
- ½ cup heavy cream
- Pinch of paprika
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Mrs. Dash blend
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp thyme
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
Instructions
- Wet mix: Whisk onion powder, eggs, milk, heavy cream, and paprika until smooth.
- Dry mix: In a separate bowl, whisk flour, black pepper, garlic powder, Mrs. Dash, salt, thyme, and cornstarch.
- Prep onion: Peel onion but keep the root/core intact. Slice downward all around, stopping before the root to form petals. Gently separate.
- Coat: Dust onion in the dry mix; shake off excess. Dip into the wet batter, then return to the dry mix for a final coat. Press gently to adhere.
- Fry: Heat oil to 350°F (177°C). Carefully lower the onion blossom and fry 15–20 minutes until deep golden and crispy.
- Drain & serve: Transfer to a rack or paper towels. Serve hot with dipping sauce or enjoy plain.
